About Me

Chi Laughlin studied English and Creative Writing at The University of Arizona before spending eleven years working on the assembly line at the Whirlpool Corporation’s wash machine plant in his hometown of Clyde, Ohio. His first attempt at film, an authorized adaptation of Stephen King’s short story, All That You Love Will Be Carried Away, earned him a place at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts Asia, in Singapore, where he received his MFA in Film and Television Production.  Chi served as director of photography on Er Ren, directed by Shijie Tan, which was selected for competition in the short film category of the 66th annual Venice Film Festival, and co-wrote Bug and the Fireflies with Rob Holland, which won a Bronze Prize at the 2016 PAGE International Screenwriting Awards. His script for Help Kenny Gee Now, a crowdfunding campaign video for Singaporean filmmaker Kenny Gee, was praised by Indiewire.com as “One of the best crowdfunding videos we’ve ever seen,” and by Indiegogo as “the most creative and brilliant campaign video of all time.” At various times, he has been a boxer, a singer, an actor, and a comic, and is currently working as a staff writer for Magnet Media Films in New York City.
